Sciatica pain relief

Heat/Ice
For acute sciatic pain, heat and/or ice packs are readily available and can help alleviate the leg pain, especially in the initial phase. Usually ice or heat is applied for approximately 20 minutes, and repeated every two hours. Most people use ice first, but some people find more relief with heat. The two may be alternated.

Here are some practical uses for our heating pads:
These are a few areas our heating pads can be of use for your well being.
Also remember these can also be used hot or cold depending on the therapy required.
As a rule of thumb cold is used for new swollen injuries and hot for old aches and pains.

Heat or cold therapy for Arthritis

Should I use Cold or heat for my arthritis pain?

A common question should I use cold or heat for aches and pains. The general rule is that in the first 48 hours after an injury, cold should be used to reduce inflammation. After the first 48 hours, ice or heat may be used. The common sense advice is: use what works! If cold makes the pain feel better, then use that. If heat makes the pain feel better, that is okay, too.
We have several items that are used by people suffering from arthritic pain.

For the hands we have our warming mitts.

For other general aches and pains we have a variety of heat packs that can all be used hot or cold

How to Use Heat and Cold Therapy for Sciatic Pain

Cold Therapy
Take a Sports Therapy Wrap from the freezer and use for sciatic pain This is usually kept in one spot, such as the low back, for 15 to 20 minutes per application, and repeated for three times (15 minutes on-off-on-off-on, which takes 1 hour, 15 minutes = 1 session).

Heat Therapy
Take our Warm Buddy Sports Therapy wrap, heat in the microwave and place on affected area of the back.
In addition to the benefits stated above, heat relaxes the muscles, which again, allows for some pain relief, allowing the patient to stretch out the sciatic nerve and diminish the compression that is causing the sciatica.
